Bluff man (21) netted with drugs worth R45,000

Police investigation nets man with nearly R50,000 in heroin and mandrax.

A BLUFF man was arrested on Tuesday, 5 May for the possession of drugs with a street value of more than R45,000.

Wentworth SAPS crime prevention members, Sergeant Surriah and Constables Ngwane, Mei and Naidoo followed a tip from a community member that led them to flats in Woodville Road in Wentworth, where it was alleged a man was selling drugs.

As they arrived, they noticed a man fitting the description given and searched him. The officers found a clear bank bag holding 170 heroin straws. The 21-year-old was taken to the police station and following an interrogation, he told police where he lived.

The team went to his home on the Bluff where they found a cooler bag filled with 500 mandrax tablets and 970 straws of heroin, with a street value of R45,000. His parents, who were home at the time, verified that he lived there.

Tevin Morrisson was charged for possession of drugs and he appeared in the Durban Magistrates’ Court the same day.

KZN provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the officers on the arrest and confiscation of the drugs. “I also highly praise that brave community member who contacted the police and provided this genuine information. This is a kind of partnership we require from our communities,” she said.
