Police partner up for anti-hijack campaign

Police aim to reduce risk with help of local security company.

THE combined efforts of the Brighton Beach SAPS media monitoring division and a security company saw 1,000 anti-hijacking brochures distributed on the Bluff on Thursday, 20 November.

As part of the police station’s 2014/15 festive season strategy, the brochures, which were sponsored by ADT Security and developed by Brighton Beach SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, were handed out at the intersection of Tara and Grays Inn roads. The aim was to educate people on reducing their risk of hijacking.

“Brighton Beach SAPS aims to condition the community and visitors to the area to be vigilant at all times,” said communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux. “Hijackings have become a daily occurrence, with use of force becoming more excessive, resulting in serious injury and even deaths. There are two main survival principals in hijacking situations. They are complying with the demands of the assailants, and not making any sudden movements,” she said.

Brighton Beach SAPS management thanks ADT Security members and Capt Le Roux for their active participation. “Through partnership initiatives we can achieve more in the fight against crime this festive season”, said Capt Le Roux.
