God’s ‘Little creatures’ – Single-line Web Spider
Today I would like to share this rather strange looking spider that I saw and photographed at the Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve.
At first glance I thought that this was a small piece of dirt or leaf hanging from a cobweb but something told me to have a closer look. I was really surprised to discover that it was in fact a spider. So I took a couple of pictures and went home to do some research.
It is called a Single-line Web Spider or also known as a Tropical Stick Spider. It is a small spider, only growing to a maximum body length of 1cm. This spider is rather unusual in that its web only consists of one thick strand stretched between two points, sometimes as long as 3 meters. This spider is completely harmless to us humans.
I just sit in awe of all that our God has created, the more I discover the more I realize how much more there is to discover.
