TAFTA to host 65th anniversary celebration

The event will feature a fashion show, delicious dinner and a dance floor for entertainment.

THE Association for The Aged (Tafta) has launched the sale of tickets for the commemoration of their 65th-anniversary celebration called The Spectacular Sapphire Soirée.

In collaboration with Jane Linley-Thomas (radio DJ), the non-profit organisation will host a gala dinner and fashion show on October 27 at the Durban Jewish Club.

The evening will showcase a range of clothing and accessory items designed by Linley-Thomas and modelled by Tafta residents.

Tafta’s CEO, Femada Shamam, encourages supporters to celebrate the organisation’s 65th anniversary by attending the event.

“The evening promises to be one of fashion, fun and festivity as we share the life stories of our very own elder residents in the most spectacular way.

“Supporters will be treated to starters and welcome drinks on their arrival. The event will feature a main runway show, buffet-style dinner and a dance floor for entertainment.”

Linley-Thomas said the audition process saw over 30 elders taking centre stage while sharing some of their life stories, reading poetry, singing and dancing.

“From there, we selected nine women and three men to proceed onto a wardrobe fitting. This was followed by a session to sit down, connect and record a snapshot of their precious lives, followed by hair, make-up and nails being done.

“The event will be a mix of music, storytelling and a live fashion show starring these precious elders,” added Linley-Thomas.

Tickets for the event are R500 per person and can be purchased directly from Tafta’s website at www.tafta.org.za.

Seats are limited. For more information, contact Tafta on 031 332 3721 or email idpr@tafta.org.za.
