WATCH: Culture, food and fun at colourful event

Learners dressed in attire representing various countries and regions and showcased their talents with unique performances.

TALENTED and vibrant learners showcased delicious culinary cuisine and the cultures of countries and regions from around the world at an entertaining Cultural Evening, hosted by Bluff Christian Academy.

Caleb de Reland, Caleb Bruce and their teacher, Janine Nel, represented South Africa.

Held at Dirky Uys School Hall, the colourful event garnered the support of scores of parents and residents from the surrounding community. The event kicked off Heritage Month celebrations, while learners and staff served delicious meals and desserts from the countries they represented.

Learners showcased their talent with a Bollywood dance.

The learners dressed in attire representing various countries and regions, which included South Africa, Brazil, Malaysia, Italy, Hawaii, the United States of America, France, England, Japan, India and Mexico, as they served attendees a variety of dishes.

Those who were craving a truly South African experience were served boerewors, chakalaka and koeksisters, while Mexico’s table was one of the popular stops, with burritos and nachos tantalising the taste buds of attendees.

The performances were unique, and learners wowed audiences.

India served butter chicken with roti, as well as Bombay crush as refreshments. Italy’s famous pizza and pasta combination was a hit, while Hawaii’s tropical fruit display attracted those who wished for a healthier option. Those representing Japan served raman and chicken fillets, while France supporters enjoyed a Fejdad (stew) and the Malaysian cuisine included mixed nuts and yoghurt with fruit.

Learners representing Hawaii had audiences clapping to the beat while they danced.

 

Dance performances by talented learners culminated the evening by leaving spectators joyful and on their feet, clapping to the beat while learners performed to songs that are recognised in each country.
