Non-profit football club needs help getting to tournament

The KZN Lyons Football Club, based on The Bluff, is hopeful that through sponsorship its players will have the opportunity to compete in the Kapstadt CUP tournament in Cape Town.

THE KZN Lyons Football Club (FC) needs help getting to their next tournament, to battle it out for the Kapstadt CUP 2023 which takes place in October, and require sponsors to get them to Cape Town.

The event is said to be the Mother City’s premier grassroots football festival hosted by the Kapstadt FC, and is an annual fundraiser, sanctioned by the South African Football Association and endorsed by the City of Cape Town.

Earlier this year, the KZN Lyons emerged as a beacon of hope and ambition, officially established after an immensely successful trip to Italy to compete in the Yes Cup in April. Since then, the club has set a new standard in the area, boasting a definitive structure and exuding a professional aura that sets it apart.

Beyond the pursuit of soccer excellence, the club strives to transform young lives through sport.

Recognising the struggles faced by the south Durban community, the club is committed to taking children off the street and offering them an escape from harsh realities through sport.

Operating from The Bluff, the club boasts a membership of talented players from all around south Durban. The clubs’ new state-of-the-art training facility at Dirkie Uys Primary School ensures that youngsters can train safely and effectively.

The club serves the South Durban Basin area, including Wentworth, Umlazi, Merebank, and The Bluff, as well as other areas such as Chatsworth, Newlands East, Sydenham and Sherwood. Currently, the club proudly competes in various SAFA registered league divisions, namely U10, U11, U13, U15, and U17.

The Kapstadt CUP has become an inspiring platform for youth development and serves as a springboard for young talents to achieve fame in the football world. This year, the tournament will be hosted at prestigious venues such as Athlone Stadium, Greenpoint Park, Greenpoint Shared Fields, and Hartleyvale in Observatory.

Since inception, the club has not charged any fees and its operational expenses have been met through community support, contributions from club directors and staff, and the generous donations from sponsors.
