PHOTOS: Learners enjoy school’s winter fun sports day

Seven schools from the area participated in Fynnland Primary School's Winter Fun Sports Day.

SCORES of learners from various schools got to showcase their talent at Fynnland Primary School’s Winter Fun Sports Day held at the school on The Bluff recently.

Eunet Pattinson, the school’s principal, said the event incorporated various sports typically played during the winter season. She said the school launched the initiative aimed at fostering community unity in 2018.

“The inaugural event featured boys soccer, netball, hockey, and rugby, with the participation of three schools. In 2019, the number of participating schools increased to six. Unfortunately, the outbreak of Covid-19 disrupted our plans.

“It wasn’t until last year that we were able to host our first official Winter Fun Sports Day. This year marked the second iteration of the event, which not only brought the community together, but also served as a fundraiser for our school,” she said.

Pattinson said they had seven schools participate in the event this year.

These included Fynnland Primary School, Bushlands Primary School, Brighton Beach Senior Primary School, Van Riebeeck Park Primary, Dirkie Uys, Bluff Christian Academy and Woodlands Primary.

The winning teams of the day were Fynnland Primary School, who claimed victory in mini-soccer and U11 soccer, Bushlands Primary School emerged as the champions in U13 soccer, Van Riebeeck Park Primary secured first place in girls soccer, Dirkie Uys triumphed in netball, and Fynnland Primary School excelled in rugby.
