Wentworth woman shot in face during attempted robbery

Young women are urged to be extra vigilant following the violent incident.

A WENTWORTH mother appeals to young women to be extra vigilant after her daughter was shot in the face during an armed robbery on Clinic Road.

Vuyiswa Mdluli said her daughter, Andisiwe Thethu, 22, was on her way home from work when an armed man approached her.

“He fired a few gunshots and then demanded her cellphone. She threw her phone on the ground and ran from him, but she had already been shot.

“It was only when she noticed the blood pouring from her mouth that she realised that she had been shot,” Mdluli added.

Thethu sustained a gunshot wound to the mouth. She ran into a pharmacy in the vicinity and screamed for help.

“The man who shot her did not pick up the cellphone which she had dropped, making this a senseless shooting. I cannot understand how youngsters and men continue to create havoc in our community by being trigger happy. I hope that this incident gains the attention of law enforcement officials so that something can be done to curb the gun violence and crime in Wentworth,” added Mdluli.
