“I am more alert and I am healthier as well. I started classes to feel sure of myself and feel confident. I wanted to learn at least one sport during my teenage years and since I also wanted to defend myself, I chose karate, which has many different benefits,” said Tshiamo.

Saint Henry’s Marist College learner, Zenani, 15, said he aspires to be South Africa’s Bruce Lee and is an avid martial arts fan.

“When I began my journey as a karate student, it helped me understand power and how much responsibility comes with it. I want to grow in karate and understand the responsibility that comes with it, which is very important.

“Since the age of four, I fell in love with the sport and am a fan of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Lee and Stephan Chow. I have been dreaming of one day being a great karateka and I aim to do my best,” added Zenani.
