Help Montclair grandmother in need

Marie Bateman has to look after her two granddaughters since they lost their mother in November.

TODAY (March 23) marks four months since a Montclair mother and breadwinner, Charmaine Bateman lost her battle with cervical cancer, and her family are finding it difficult to cope, both emotionally and financially.

They are now appealing to the community to please assist them. After an eight-month-long battle, Bateman, 31, passed away in hospital on November 23. Bateman, who worked as a Grade R teacher at a school in Umlazi, left behind her two young daughters, who were aged seven and two at the time, as well her mother, Marie Bateman.

Ruby Terblanche, the owner of Bugzee’s Pre-School, said they were appealing for assistance for the family. Bateman’s youngest daughter attends the school.

“Charmaine was the main breadwinner in their home, as her mom was not employed. The family is now struggling to make ends meet and we are once again asking the community to please help with food items or any form of assistance.

“We also ask that it be an ongoing process until Charmaine’s mom can find employment. We would be highly grateful to the community if they can help this precious family, especially the grandmother who is still grieving the loss of her child, but has to remain strong and try to provide for her two grandbabies,” she said.
