‘Quins cricket teams play to win

The Harlequins' second team advanced through to the Division Two T20 set to take place on March 26.

IT was a busy and exciting weekend for some of the Harlequins Cricket Club teams who emerged victorious from their matches played on Sunday, March 19. 

Ernest Kettle, the club’s senior advisor, said the ‘Quins U13 team took on Isanda in a 25-over a-side encounter at the Harlequins sports grounds. 

“Isanda scored 21 runs in 8 overs. The best performers were bowlers Caleb Barendse, who bowled 3 overs and 4 wickets for 3 runs, and Joshua Peterson, who took 3 wickets for 9 runs in 4 overs.

 “‘Quins easily surpassed the required total in 8 overs, losing just 4 wickets. The best batsmen were Zane Zowitsky, who scored a dozen runs and Angawethu Mbanjwa who scored 10 runs. ‘Quins U13s won by 6 wickets,” he said.

 Kettle said the ‘Quins second team versed Umlazi 2 in a Division Two T20 semi-final. 

“Umlazi posted a total of 117 runs. Medium-paced seam bowler, Janaid Jacobs, was the home team’s most successful bowler, capturing 3 wickets and conceding 10 runs in two overs. ‘Quins batsmen were successful in their response in a match which was closely contested throughout the 40-over engagement.  

“Top-order batsman Heath Manicom scored 15 runs, middle-order batsman Kalvin Venter managed 13 runs, and tail-enders Junaid Jacobs and Jared Jooste were both undefeated with 22 and 26 runs respectively when Harlequins’ second team surpassed the target of 118 runs in the very final over of this match-up,” he said.

Kettle said, “Quins’ second team advanced through to Division Two T20 set to take place on March 26.”

He added that the Harlequins’ first team are scheduled to commence their promotion league T20 knockout-format competition against Umlazi on March 26.  The club will also be hosting a sixers competition on April 1.
