Karatekas graded and awarded for their efforts

Some of the awards that were handed out included most motivated student, most improved student, KZN senior of the year, KZN junior of the year, and the cup of morals, among others.

FIFTEEN students of the Funakoshi Karate International South Africa moved on to their next belt at the grading ceremony and prize-giving event held at the dojo on The Bluff on December 3.

Students, aged from as young as five up to 34, showcased their best skills, and were awarded their respective belts, which started from white till purple.

Sensei Shaun Miln, said the students had worked hard throughout the year, and he was proud of their achievements.

“Everyone had a lot of fun, which is one of aims along with our training. If it is also fun, and not scary, then the students want to learn and will forget their fears. We also held a prize-giving to show the students and all the other role-players that their efforts are noticed,” he said.

“You feel more fit and energetic, as well learn how to protect or defend yourself. I always encourage people to try it out so they can see they can see the benefits,”  he said.
