Community urged to join autism awareness and fundraising fun walk

There will be flea market stalls and other fun-filled activities on offer for the whole family.

THE Colours of Bliss Autism Centre, are urging residents to join their fun walk/ run to create autism awareness and raise funds.

The event will be held on October 30, at the Dubri Road Grounds, from 08:30, and will include a family fun day with flea market stalls and other fun-filled activities. Free blood pressure and sugar testing will also be available, as well as body mass index screenings.

Commemorating their celebration with the support of the Merebank Athletics Club (MAC) and Mereridge Flea Market, founder of the centre, Kubashnie Padayachee, said she was excited to be able to share her passion for helping children with autism, with the community.

Padayachee, a seasoned teacher who started the centre after she was inspired to leave her full-time job to focus on the needs of her 12-year-old daughter, who was diagnosed with non-verbal autistm, is proud to be able to help other children with autism.

“There were very few facilities which cater for children on the autism spectrum and that the few that are available are a distance away from Merebank or above the budget of a middle to low income parent.

“Colours of Bliss is a certified non-profit and public benefit organisation aimed at providing a safe place for children to interact, socialise and learn new skills. The learning programs are specifically designed to cater for the individual needs of each child,” she said.
