City warns of con men
ETHEKWINI Municipality warns people to be aware of a con artist requesting quotations on behalf of the municipality.
The scammer, allegedly going by the name of George Langeni, contacts services providers for quotations for tenders that are advertised on tsibocreens.com and issues false municipal documents and order numbers. He asks these service providers for an invoice and a payment of a 50% deposit to a company called Tsibo Screens.
Inquiries by the City Integrity and Investigations Unit have discovered that many service providers have been contacted by this man. He states his address is at the Durban City Hall and provides a telephone number linked to the PABX at the Florence Mkhize Building.
A zero tolerance policy has been adopted on fraud and corruption by the municipality. Any information related to this case and any other cases of fraud, corruption, maladministration and human rights violation in the municipality, must be reported to the City Integrity and Investigations Unit on 0800-202-020 toll free or 031-311-4002 or ombuds@durban.gov.za.
