3 Wentworth bowlers progress to the PNB trips playoffs

The club will host a full field of bowlers for weekend games.

AFTER drenching rain that closed the greens the previous weekend, the men at Wentworth Bowling Club (WBC) took to the greens in extreme heat last weekend, to play the preliminary rounds of the club’s open singles championship.

Support from the women’s team, who assisted as markers, meant a full day’s play was achieved and on Saturday, February 19, the quarter and semi-final games will be contested.

Sunday, February 20, will see the men on the greens again in the opening rounds of their nominated trips competition. The women’s team will play their drawn fours round robin games on Saturday and Sunday. With the draw resulting in evenly balanced teams, the competition promises some exciting, close games.

Congratulations to Wayne Smith, Matt Lassak and Denzil Lewis who won their section in the Port Natal trips competition to proceed to the knock out rounds at Parkhill Bowling Club.

Friday’s Tomasina men’s casual bowls proved to be a successful morning for Gees Dennis, Phil Hill and Gary Lelong who accumulated a respectable plus 27 to take the main prize on the day. In second spot were Graham Bransby, Herby Roux and Vic McCreanor. Rob de Gouveia, Steve Baker and Mike Schudel left the club with the sportsmen’s prize.

Mike Hough made a good choice on the raffle sheet and was rewarded with a substantial braai pack to enjoy. Both Mike’s were in the prizes again when the numbers were pulled for the board draws and they scooped the money from the first board.

Winners on the second board were Mark Russell-Boulton and Abe Maffon.
