Get stoked! Support SA para-surfers

Eight local surfers have been selected for the national para-surfing team that will represent South Africa and compete at the World Para Surfing Championships in Pismo Beach, California, USA.

EIGHT local surfers have been selected for the national para-surfing team that will represent South Africa and compete at the World Para Surfing Championships in Pismo Beach, California, USA from the 7th to the 11th of December 2021.

“Our adaptive surfing crew have shown hard work, bravery and commitment and now get to fly the South African flag proudly as they tackle to biggest and most competitive competition in the world. The full SA para-surfing team is made up of 20 people, of that 15 of those are Made for More representatives, five of which are management and eight Durban surfers and another two from Cape Town,” shared Made for More founder and director, Julia van Zyl.

The surfers are; Sabelo Ngema, Tracy McKay, David Williams, Doug Hendrikz, James Sinclair, Oliver Sinclair, Alulutho Tshoba, Erynn Geddie, Daniel NelMichele Macfarlane, Jean-Paul Veaudry, Noluthando Makalima and Caleb Swanepoel. The sixth edition of the event will gather the world’s best para surfers to compete and display their talents in a Paralympic-style, world championship competition. Last year South Africa came 6th out of 24 Countries.

“This year, we hope to be in medal contention with a bigger and more diverse team. Unfortunately, with no financial support, these athletes have to raise their own finances of R39 000 each to represent their country. The estimated cost breakdown is R15 000 for flights and transport, R12 000 for accommodation, R5500 for food, R3750 for competition registration and R2250 for classification.”

Made for More is a Wentworth based organisation that uses sport as a vehicle to bring hope, build relationships, and instil morals and values, while equipping and allowing athletes to pursue their sporting careers provincially and on a national level.

“As an organisation, we want to help facilitate and support our athletes and this process. Should you want to cover a specific athlete or contribute to the team in general, please feel free to donate to this crowdfunding campaign. As we are an NPO and Public Benefit Organisation, we can issue you or your company with a tax 18A certificate.”
