Casual Day fun at Merewent Cheshire Home
Encouraging the communities of Wentworth and Merebank to support the initiative was the Merewent Cheshire Home.
SOUTH Africa’s leading fundraising and awareness campaign for persons with disabilities, Casual Day was celebrated on Friday, September 3.
The campaign is also the flagship project of the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD).
Launched in 1995, Casual Day is an awareness and fundraising campaign benefiting persons with disabilities. Each year, people are encouraged to go to work or school dressed differently, either dress up or dress down, and to wear the official Casual Day sticker and merchandise to show their support for persons with disabilities. The campaign encourages the public to contribute financially through a small donation of R20 for a sticker, and at the same time lobbies for the full inclusion and equity of persons with disabilities.
Encouraging the communities of Wentworth and Merebank to support the initiative was the Merewent Cheshire Home. The home’s staff and residents put up a stall calling on community members to spare some odd change for a worthy cause as a way of demonstrating how small actions can make a huge difference to the lives of persons with disabilities. The organisation also sent out a team to sell stickers at the Bluff Towers.
Merewent Cheshire Home’s Winne Mkhize expressed her gratitude to the community for their support towards the home by purchasing a sticker and raising awareness in a fun way.
