Sodurba offers a whale of fun this festive

As part of Sodurba's project with WildOceans, the team has called on the old community of the Old Whaling Station to come forward and share any memories they may have of the historic wonder.

IN what has been the most unpredictable year yet, Sodurba Community Tourism Organisation (CTO) is glad to still be able to offer holiday fun over the festive season.

“What a roller coaster 2020 has been. It really has been a tough one for so many people. We have just survived for that we can be grateful and we look forward to a great 2021. The good thing about Covid is that we have had a big saving off new membership, which is now 50 per cent, to assist our partners through these difficult times. This also encourages new members to join our wonderful CTO.

“As a CTO we have been very busy welcoming new members and working with Durban Tourism on activations within Durban. Durban has more to offer than most cities in South Africa and we intend to make sure this is the message we prevail to our tourists. We were lucky to be part of the tourism activation that took place at Brighton Beach recently,” said Sodurba CTO chairperson, Helga du Preez who was also on East Coast Radio where she shared about the work done by the organisation and the area they cover.

The Airlie Road lookout point on the Bluff has also been making steady progress and lots of headway. What used to be a dumping area has now being converted into a whale watching deck where the community will get to enjoy the scenery of the ocean and spot a whale or two. As part of Sodurba’s project with WildOceans, the team has called on the old community of the Old Whaling Station to come forward and share any memories they may have of the historic wonder.

“We will compile these into artefacts and hopefully one day share these on our museum, which we hope to achieve at our beloved heritage site. We also have our exciting Bluff Whale Heritage Site Experience tour packages available to get a unique experience into the Whale Heritage of our area. Pre-booked and guided by our team,” said Helga. To book a tour send an email bluffwhalingcommunity@gmail.com or for more information contact Sodurba on 071-143-1235.
