It is unclear how many trespassers entered the garden as they fled after stabbing the dogs.
THE owner of a mother-and-son furry pair that sustained severe stab wounds on Monday afternoon, 24 August while bravely defending his property in Yellowwood Park, said he was most angered by what had transpired at his home in their absence.
Poncho and Otis’ owner Allan Hartley said it was through grace that the dogs were around to serve as deterrents to the intruders as they could have gotten away with far more.
“What worries me most is that there were two people on the property, if the dogs had not been there, these bastards would have carried on looking to see what they could do.”
“Yes, they’ve wounded the dogs but if it was not for them, they would have gotten into the house, the tenants’ or my daughter’s teen pad,” he said. I
It is unclear how many trespassers entered the garden as they fled after stabbing the dogs.
The dogs also remained silent during the attack as tenants elsewhere on the premises only realised something was amiss when they noticed the family pets covered in blood.
“During the course of that particular day, one of our tenants was here, hanging up washing when she noticed that one of the dogs had a lot of blood on it.”
“She phoned my wife, Loren, who immediately got a hold of Blue Security and very quickly, the reaction officer arrived at our home. They did a complete look around the house to ensure that these guys had gone.”
The brave family pets and watchdogs were rushed to a vet in Montclair.
“Our six-year-old Poncho received two slashes to the head with one stab wound narrowly missing her eye, plus a third stab wound to the chest. Her son, five-year-old Otis, suffered a very deep stab wound behind the ear, on his neck. Both dogs received multiple stitches,” he said.
It is suspected that the family pets – and fierce protectors – fought off at least two intruders on the property. “There was a blood smear, at human height, left on the wall, so we’re hoping the brave pair gave as good as they got,” he said. This is not the first time that Poncho has bravely defended her home.
“She has chased intruders off the property before when trespassers attempted to gain entry around the back. She gets very defensive towards unwelcome visitors,” he said.
Allan said without a doubt, he would beef up security at his home and hopes his story serves as a warning to other families in the area. He was so pleased with his dogs’ act of bravery that would be getting juicy steaks as a treat.
