PE and art keeps Bluff Christian Academy learners active

Core strengthening and plyometric exercises are just a few of many the learners have done.

BLUFF Christian Academy continues to reach out to its learners remotely, ensuring that they are kept afloat with their school work and no subject is left out.

Creative arts and physical education (PE) lessons were the subjects at the forefront, with the school having recently held its first-ever Home Fun Run and Walk on Saturday, 25 April.

Learners and their families were encouraged to put on their running shoes for a walk or run around their home or garden and were encouraged to measure the distance they covered.

PE teacher, Marlin Wilson, said conducting lessons has been quite a challenge.

“We find ourselves isolated and without any equipment. For example, they cannot participate in any form of invasion games.

“We have been working around it though, and doing individual exercises that would improve our skills in terms of speed, strength, agility, and stamina when playing these games,” he said.

He said his method of approach with his learners is to explain the exercises and provide them with YouTube videos, demonstrating the correct techniques for the exercises.

Core strengthening and plyometric exercises are just a few of many the learners have done.

“I’ve also got the learners to design their own games, such as target games for example, where they had to send me a video explaining how the game is played, a warm-up routine to prepare the body for exercise and then they were assessed on their skill and ability to reach the targets in their game.

“It has been a challenge, but the feedback has been positive.”

“The learners in their full BCA PE kit and their families all got involved and enjoyed the lessons together, which was very amazing to see,” he said.
