Class of 2019 celebrates matric results

The 2019 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations saw 81.3 per cent of matriculants pass which is a 3 per cent increase from the 78.2 per cent pass rate the previous year.

THE results for the matric class of 2019 are officially out and the new school leavers have reason to celebrate as the 2019 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations saw 81.3 per cent of matriculants pass which is a 3 per cent increase from the 78.2 per cent pass rate the previous year.

Durban Academy’s pass rate was 96.7 per cent an increase from the previous year’s 87.4 per cent, making it the top performing school on the Bluff. The school’s top learner was Lorna Ntshangase who had a 75 per cent average and received one A. A proud Durban Academy principal, Riana Theron said: “We have 35 Bachelor passes, eight subjects with 100 per cent pass, four with over 90 per cent pass and three subjects over 80 per cent. These results are absolutely amazing and we are very happy with the matriculants’ performance. I congratulate the learners on their hard work together with educators who worked hard, even over the weekends and holidays. Your effort has paid off and I’m very proud of you all, all the best.”

In Montclair, Mowat Park High School received a 86 per cent pass rate. The school’s top performing learner was Nandi Mkhize, who achieved an impressive six As in her final results “I’m so happy, I’m speechless. I could not have done so well without having a great support system which is my family and friends. My matric year was quite challenging with both academic stress and other personal things going on and it piled up. But through the support I received I was able to get through it,” said Nandi. The top achiever has applied to study actuarial science at the University of the Witwatersrand and is excited about what her bright future has in store.

Mowat Park High School’s principal Nkosinathi Tsaulwayo congratulated the learners who achieved good results and encouraged them to keep up the good work. “This is the beginning of their real journey in life in order to be who they want to be. I encourage them to work harder than before because they are now tapping into a different ball game. We want our girls to be tomorrow’s leaders who will impact South Africa’s social and economic challenges. Go forth and soar,” he encouraged.
