September and November 2018
A MAN and woman were sentenced on Friday, 11 October, to a collective 180 years for carjacking and kidnapping crimes committed in Montclair and Lamontville last year. Khanyisile Nomfundo Ndlela and Thabo Eugene Zulu used the modus operandi of requesting e-hailing cab services for transportation as a way to lure their victims.

“Khanyisile pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four counts of carjacking to which she got 12 years of imprisonment for each. She was also given eight years for each of the four counts of the kidnapping she pleaded guilty to. Thabo was sentenced to five counts of carjacking and will serve 15 years imprisonment for each and five counts for kidnapping to which he will serve five years imprisonment for each count,” said Capt Derk Vijiam of Montclair SAPS.

Khanyisile received 80 years while Thabo was given 100 years of jail time. Sentencing was handed down on 11 October at the Durban Regional court. Khanyisile and Thabo will serve an effective 12 and 40 years of imprisonment respectively.

Friday, 11 October
A CASE of carjacking was registered with the police after three unknown men pounced on an unsuspecting woman and her grandmother who were inside the car parked on Atherstone Place at approximately 4.25pm. “They were surprised by three males who arrived in a black VW Polo and parked alongside their vehicle. The assailants alighted their vehicle and all three produced firearms and pointed it at the occupants of the car. The victims were threatened and instructed to alight from their vehicle. The suspects got into the victim’s vehicle and sped off,” said Capt Derek Vijiam.

Saturday, 12 October
A CASE of house robbery was opened after a man was robbed of his belongings at gunpoint inside his house on Lourie Place, Woodhaven at approximately 11.45am. “The victim was sitting inside the house when two unknown males entered and pointed him with a firearm. He fought with suspects and they cocked the firearm and the victim stopped fighting. The suspects searched the victim and took two cellphones and wallet with cash of R900 and ran away on foot into bushes,” said Capt Derek Vijiam.

Saturday, 13 October 
POLICE are investigating a case of carjacking after a man was carjacked of his stationary silver Nissan Tiida at traffic lights in Mobeni at approximately 9.45pm. ” The complainant was stationary at the robots with his vehicle, when a white VW Polo sedan came to pass and blocked the way in front. Three unknown males got out and pointed victims with three firearms and forced them out from the vehicle. They searched victims of their belongings and suspects jumped into the complainant’s vehicle and drove off followed by the white Polo, said Capt Derek Vijiam. The car was recovered in Umlazi B section, Zitinini Road and taken to the pound. No injuries or shots were fired.”
