Teacher accused of sexual harrassment at Grosvenor Girls

The ordeal started when the teacher allegedly called his learners satanists and chaos erupted in the classroom because most of them felt offended.

THE Grade 11s at Grosvenor Girls’ High School are calling for the dismissal of one of their teachers following a confrontation with one of its learners. On Friday morning, 26 July, the group of girls staged a protest outside the school premises against their teacher who allegedly manhandled and sexually assaulted the learners.

The girls said they felt it necessary to protest as the principal and staff were doing nothing about the matter. The protest started outside the school with some learners marching to the police station to file a case.

One of the girls whose name is known to the Sun said most of the learners were standing outside because they were kicked out of the classroom. “He came and manhandled one of the learners who I was standing with outside. He grabbed her by her blazer and shirt and the girl asked him to stop what he was doing,” she said.

The girl explained that the teacher returned outside, and this time, pushed them all and allegedly touched the breast of one of the girl. “I asked him if he understood that that was sexual harassment, and he told me that he will not be told what to do by a child and that he would do it again if he wanted to, and he had the nerve to do it again. The girl was trying to push him away and that infuriated him even more and he did it again. He touched her breast again,” the learner explained.

She further said that a grade head witnessed the sexual assault but later claimed she had not seen anything. The group of learners collectively agreed that they would like to see the teacher removed from the school to return calm.

She said the ordeal started when their teacher called them satanists and chaos erupted in the classroom because most of them felt offended. “Sir was having an argument with one of the pupils in class and he was preaching about how he is a man of God, that he is a pastor and that he loves God and then he called us satanists, and told us that we do not know God. Almost everyone stood up in protest, how could he call us satanists and that we do not know God? I confronted him and he told me to get out,” she explained.

Principal at the school, Mrs Jorgensen, said she had no comment about the matter, and the KZN Department of Education spokesperson, Muzi Mhlambi, had not responded to questions sent to him at the time of publication.
