Full league points for both Wentworth men’s sides

Saturday, 11 May, saw the start of the Bowls South Africa Women’s National championship hosted by Port Natal Bowls.

Moving with the trend of a more aggressive, tactical game played by younger people wearing distinctive colours, the members of Wentworth Bowling Club celebrated the launch of their long awaited new club strip at Saturday’s league games.

And what a celebration it was. Both men’s league sides brought home full points from their encounters and the women secured four of the possible five points for their game. With a future as bright as their new shirts, it’s onward and upwards at the club.

Sunday morning, 5 May, heralded the final game to claim supremacy in the club’s men’s draw pairs competition. Robin de Gouveia and 13-year-old Kearan Lassak, faced off against Troy Garland and Godfrey Addinall in what proved to be the game of the season thus far. With young Kearan pulling some incredible draw shots out the bag, the sides were on equal points after the mandatory twenty one ends, forcing an extra end to decide the game. The four bowlers played a nail biting end that had spectators on the edge of their seats as the competitors battled to ensure their name is etched in gold on the club honours board. When the last bowl came to rest the scorecard recorded in favour of Troy and Godfrey claimed championship status for 2019.
