Mowat Park beauty vies for Miss Teen SA title
As a semi-finalist, Nokwethemba was tasked to come up with a worthy campaign and she chose to focus on her other passion – helping others.
MOWAT Park High Schools boasts a Miss Teenager South Africa semi-finalist, grade 10 learner, Nokwethemba Cele (16), who proudly struts her stuff and holds her head up high.
Miss Teenager South Africa is a competition open to South African girls between the ages 14 to 19 years-old and works to empower them and get them involved in worthy initiatives in their communities. The overall winner not only claims the title but also a bursary to fund their studies.
As a semi-finalist, Nokwethemba was tasked to come up with a worthy campaign and she chose to focus on her other passion – helping others. “My campaign is called Celebrate Humanity, where I did voluntary work at Ekhanana Old Age Home in Umlazi as well as donated clothes to those in need. I have also been trying to get a sponsor for my campaign so that I can help others in need,” shared Nokwethemba.
Nokwethemba fell in love with the idea of modelling at a very young age but was only introduced to the industry last year. “I started doing photoshoots and attended runway classes. This year I auditioned for Miss Teenager South Africa and fortunately made the cut. I’ve always fantasised about being honoured and loved while grabbing people’s attention whenever I did something well. I love the spotlight,” she said.
The young beauty and aspiring media personality said her family is her main support system and that winning the ultimate title would mean a lot to her and further fuel her passion for modelling and the entertainment industry. Her English teacher, Richard Herd, expressed how proud he is of Nokwethemba to not only have made it this far in the pageant, but also for applying herself to something that would build her as a young lady in the midst of the many social challenges that deter her peers.
Mowat Park High principal Nkosinathi Tsaulwayo said: “As a school, we are very proud of Nokwethemba’s developing modelling journey. Reaching the semi-finalist level is a great achievement itself and she has our full support as she goes on to compete for the overall title. Such accomplishments by our girls show that we encourage the development of young women who will go onto excel in a variety of fields and careers.”
