Three arrested with stolen goods in Wentworth

Wentworth Police recently secured an arrest and seized a large amount of stolen goods from three suspects in the Merebank area.

ON Thursday, 11 April at about 3. 30pm, members of Wentworth Police Crime Prevention were on duty patrolling the area, when they received information from crime intelligence about a white Toyota Yaris which was parked along Lahore Road in the Merebank area, with suspected stolen property.

According to Wentworth Police communications officer, Captain Mbuso Gumede, the members proceeded to the scene and spotted the same vehicle that fit the description provided. The officers then approached the said vehicle and there were three men inside it. “The members identified themselves and requested for the driver to step outside the vehicle. The other officer noticed there were televisions and fully packed boxes on the back seat of the car. The vehicle and all items were taken to Wentworth police station where the property was unpacked and suspects were searched,” said Gumede.

Items seized included: a Sansui 39 inch black flat screen TV, a Samsung 32 inch black TV, three Telefunken led flat screen TV’s and a remote, one Samsung 32 inch flat screen TV with cables, one Sony home audio system with two Sony speakers, cables and remote, one floor standing fan, stainless steel deep fryer, seven forged aluminium piece cookware set in a box, one glassware casserole warmer with glass lid, a pair of black, grey stripes adidas shoes, a pair of gloves, a broken lock, flat black screw driver, a bag containing an orange crowbar and a rusted metal pick.

“The officers found a ND number plate which the officers checked on the system and discovered it belonged to the same vehicle the suspects were in, but was not displayed on the actual vehicle. The suspects were using false number plates when committing burglaries in the areas. The suspects were questioned about being in possession of these items and they admitted to committing housebreakings in various areas as far as Umkomaas, Umgababa and other areas,” explained Gumede.

All three suspects were detained at Wentworth Police station for possession of suspected stolen property and possession of housebreaking implements. The suspects were also linked to other cases that occured in Umkomaas and Umgababa. The crime prevention officers who made the recovery of stolen items and who made the arrests were commended by the station management for a job well-done.
