Ningizimu Special School pupil, Masande Sinakudu took part in the annual competition which called on pupils from grade 1 to 12 across the country to submit a short essay or creative drawing describing what they want to be when they grow up.

Seventeen-year-old Masande did just that, reflecting on his aspirations of becoming a music DJ in a short piece and drawing, which he entered into the competition. “I love music very much, especially house and kwaito. Music makes me happy and I hope to realise my dream of becoming a successful DJ as well as make my family proud,” he said.

Ningizimu Special School principal Zethu Mkhwanazi together with teacher Lihle Mkhwanazi commend Msande Sinakudu on winning the Shoprite’s Class of 2019 competition and share a word of encouragement with him.

His teacher Lihle Nxele said although many of the pupils at the school including Masande, may face learning challenges in certain areas of the curriculum, it doesn’t take away from the great potential within them.
“We chose to nominate Masande as a participant in the competition because of both his potential as well as his need for financial assistance when it comes to his school fees. Winning this prize means his family doesn’t need to worry about paying his fees for the 2019 year. As his teacher, I am very glad that he won and received the helping hand he needed towards paying for his education,” said Nxele.

Ningizimu Special School principal Zethu Mkhwanazi expressed her pride in Masande and the progress he has made since he first started at the school. “He was able to successfully compete in a competition which includes pupils from various schools who do not have special needs and even went as far as to win. He displayed a lot of creativity which resonated with what Shoprite Montclair was looking for. We do our best to keep these pupils motivated, despite the challenges they face. I hope this young man’s passion for music never dies even after he has left the school and that he continues to do well for himself and inspire others,” said Mkhwanazi.
