Phola Park clean-up makes great strides
The community of Phola Park have managed to remove heaps of dirt from a large natural area over the past two months.
For the past few months, the community of Phola Park informal settlement have worked tirelessly, together with ward 66 councillor JP Prinsloo and his ward 66 committee, to improve their living conditions.
“Together we have managed to remove heaps of dirt from a large natural area over the past two months. Committee members from Phola Park and I meet monthly to discuss and address various health, safety and security concerns within their community,” said Cllr Prinsloo.

“The main goal of these meetings is to ensure the security of the Phola Park residents, as well as the greater Bluff community. A strong relationship has been created between the COP and SAPS to assist us in achieving this goal and together we have ensured the settlement does not grow in size.”

Prinsloo said the longer-term solution is to provide each of these families with housing opportunities in order to permanently close down the settlement. “We are actively working on these options with the city’s human settlements department. In the interim, we will ensure these families receive the basic services every South African is entitled to, as outlined in our Constitution,” he added.
Cleanups will continue until the area has been completely cleared of building material dumped by residents from outside the area and litter removed from all the natural spaces.
