Outgoing CROW wildlife warrior director bids farewell

Outgoing director of CROW, Paul Hoyte says it has been both an honour and a privilege working at the centre for six years.

Outgoing director of the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW), Paul Hoyte is thankful for the pleasure of having been able to play an active role in the welfare of wildlife.
“It has been both an honour and a privilege working at CROW for six years. It has been a time of my life I will never forget, with memories I will always cherish. The experience certainly had its low moments with many cases of cruelty coupled with avoidable, unnecessary deaths of the wild animals that we are lucky enough to share this Earth with.
But one thing I learned from my time at CROW, which has left a lasting impression on me, is there are so many caring souls out there who assist animals and organisations in need, like CROW. People who give their time and efforts at no charge, just to lend a helping hand,” said Hoyte.

Hoyte was pleasantly surprised at the sincere compassion and tolerance people have towards caring for animals in need. “They come in many forms – as donors, depots, animal professionals, children, like-minded organisations and more. I used to think our wildlife had no hope, but CROW opened my eyes to the hope that’s out there, and it is considerable. This gives me a sense of calm as I hand over the reins to my highly capable and skilled successor,” he said.

Hoyte said he is sad to leave a special place that has become his home and changed his perspective deeply.
“It gives me great happiness knowing CROW has a strong, dedicated and passionate team that will, with the help of all of us, make a difference. To all the friends, volunteers and staff that have become my family, thank you. My life has been forever changed and the lessons I have learned from all of you will be shared by myself at every opportunity given. Keep your chins up and your hearts warm, you are all heroes,” he concluded.
