The Full Gospel Church of God in Turffontein embarked on an outreach programme at Yellow Mountain informal settlement on May 23, where clothes, blankets and a Jojo tank were donated.

Yellow Mountain is an informal settlement on Side Road, between Chrisville and Southdale suburbs. It’s called Yellow Mountain because it’s a mine dump formed from deposits over the years. Over 150 families have built shacks and made it their home.

Past Jack Chirwa said many of them are unemployed, yet some are trying to make a living through the recycling business. There are no toilets or running water on this ‘mountain’, except for one Jojo tank.

“The Full Gospel Church had its first outreach programme at Yellow Mountain in December and distributed food parcels. This is our second outreach programme; we preached God’s love, installed another 5 000l Jojo tank and distributed second-hand clothes and shoes. Sheriff June Thomas also made a contribution of 150 blankets towards this outreach. We are thankful for the Full Gospel Church family and the Sheriff for making this outreach a success,” he said.
