Give your kitchen a makeover

Interpret new design trends in your own way to give your kitchen a new look that’s decorative and practical.

  • Broken-plan kitchens – when screens, plants, pieces of furniture and cabinets are used to create zones and nooks – work in many spaces.
  • Grey is the most relevant neutral this year by Pantone’s standards; it softens a monochrome look and pairs well with a pop of colour.
  • If you have the budget, design your own bespoke storage solutions with a carpenter.
  • Tiles and mosaics instantly shake up a kitchen; splashbacks and subway tiles are  as popular as ever.
  • Play with meshwire cabinetry for a twist on the industrial look.
  • Handleless kitchen cupboards are so on trend and give your kitchen a much more streamlined look and feel. Hiding appliances has the same effect.
  • Pantries and sculleries have moved from kitchen luxuries to essentials. Try to incorporate at least one.
  • Pendant lighting still makes a design statement and is so useful above a kitchen island.
  • Style open kitchen shelves with glass containers; use a unified aesthetic in similar tones and then add interest with a pot plant, decorative basket or a stack of your favourite cookbooks.
  • Invest in the best cookware you can afford and look after it properly.
  • Always choose classic, contemporary white crockery; have the fun with coloured glassware, placemats and napkins instead.
  • Make sure you’re kitchen operates in a fuss-free, hygienic way, but that it remains the heart of your home.
