Brackenhurst Primary conducts SGB elections electronically

Brackenhurst Primary School proved to have adapted to the new norm by conducting their election poll during the School Governing Body (SGB) elections for 2021.

Brackenhurst Primary School’s election for the School Governing Body (SGB) elections for 2021 took place with strict health regulations in place.

Parents came in their numbers on April 14 to vote for their school’s SGB candidates.

SGBs represent all sectors of the school community, including parents, educators, non-teaching staff and the learners.

Bertie Oosthuizen of Laerskool Orion, who was also facilitating, said: “Everything went very well with the elections. Brackenhurst Primary School as an information technology school is going strong and people appreciated the electronic system we were using.”

Janine Roets, head of the department of IT at the school, commended the electronic system and declared it a huge success.

“Everything went smoothly, we did all our voting electronically and parents went in and out very quickly and were very happy with the process. Some of the parents even commented that we should be showing the IEC how to run elections,” she said.
