Rumour has it: Audi could discontinue the A1

The rumour further states that the demise of the A1 could make way for an A2.

Electric cars are slowly becoming a thing these days and manufacturers are getting rid of cars powered by internal combustion engines for electrified powertrains.

With that said, a rumour states that Audi is looking at axing the A1 due to the high costs of electrification and the small margins small cars return.

According to Audi boss Markus Duesmann during the reveal of the e-Tron GT models, the third-generation A1 is highly unlikely.

The rumour further states that the demise of the A1 could make way for an A2. If not, the Q2 could become the entry-level vehicle.

On the other end, the brand will likely eliminate overlap between electric cars and normal vehicles – something that could lead to the cutting of more ICE models.

The brand’s shift to electric cars could happen in the next decade.
