Streets dug up due to underground water leak

The holes they dug up are causing problems for motorists and is very dangerous for children and adults.

Over a year ago, Celtis and Ysterhout streets have been damaged due to pipes leaking under the roads.

The problem is the pipes that feed from the reservoir have been leaking for more than a year. About two months ago the council dug up both the streets to sort out the issue, but, unfortunately, they did not solve the problem.

The water is still leaking and the problem has not been fixed. The holes they dug up are causing problems for motorists and is very dangerous for children and adults.

I appeal to the council to solve this matter urgently. Your help regarding the above will be greatly appreciated.

EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe commented:

The City acknowledges receiving the complaint of leaking main water pipeline at the corner of Celtis and Ysterhout streets in Palm Ridge Proper.

“The complaint was investigated and it was found the road and main supply pipe were damaged. The water team maintenance exposed the pipe to assess the extent of the damage on the main supply line to the residential area,” he said.

The City is in the process of procuring the correct materials for the repair work and will schedule a water supply shutdown to allow for repairs to take place. In the meantime, the trench will be backfilled to enable mobility on the road.
