Bereaved mother creatively remembers her late son

With the commencement of the national lockdown, Erica Swart took her time to indulge on her creative side by choosing to honour her late son differently.

Erica Swart, a General Albertspark resident, is among many that have joined in on the new trend of diamond-dot painting.

This is a new craft involving the completion of beautiful designs using diamond-faceted resin art kits.

With the commencement of the national lockdown, she took her time to indulge on her creative side by choosing to honour her late son differently.

She decided to honour the memory of her late son, Kobus Swart, by dot-painting his portrait photograph.
Erica lost her son, who was 22 years old, in 2018 to a fatal car accident. She described dot-painting as an effective way of honouring him.

“This is a new thing in South Africa and is loved by many. It was birthed from a hobby. It’s very relaxing and I feel this is therapeutic because I was very close to my son.

“Nobody has seen something like this before and the ones I show this to seem to be fascinated,” she said.
She started with her latest project a month ago and told the RECORD that it will take her at least another week to complete it.

“This is taking time to complete because I’m mostly at work. My sister advised me to try this out and I eventually enjoyed doing it. I plan on doing more of these by dot-painting my other family members.”

For Erica, this form of art helps take your mind off things. To date, she has done at least six art works.
