Alfa Romeo celebrates its 110th anniversary

The Italian automaker Alfa Romeo is celebrating its 110th anniversary by reopening the doors of its museum in Arese, Italy.

The Italian automaker Alfa Romeo is celebrating its 110th anniversary by reopening the doors of its museum in Arese, Italy. All health and safety guidelines in these unprecedented times will remain in place, however, the marque invites its fans from all over the world to come and experience the new exhibitions and video content online.

The Alfa Romeo Museum retains over 200 cars from the history of the Italian brand and for the first time is opening the private collection storage areas to the public. Visitors will now be able to view and admire an additional 150 historic vehicles as well as a plethora of trophies, artwork, and engines for road, air and marine mobility. The special section housed in the museum which is situated in Arese, on the outskirts of Milan, is divided into 18 areas, all of which is individually themed.

Areas will include some of Alfa Romeo’s earliest examples to   Formula racers, with Formula 1 and Formula Indy models among them, as well as concept cars, prototypes and historic sports models such as Vittorio Jano’s 6Cs and more recent racing and road cars. In addition to full-bodied vehicles there are also notable powertrains on display such as the 4C 1500 from the 1930s and the Formula 1 Turbo 415Ts.

Those with an appreciation of old police vehicles will enjoy the “Alfa Romeo in Uniform” section which is dedicated to the cars of the Carabinieri and will feature some of the most significant models of Biscione such as 1900 M “Matta” that won the Carabinieri a Mille Miglia, to the legendary Giulia, the most iconic of the “Gazzella” models and all the way to the 75, with an armoured car on display, the Alfetta Alfa 90 and a rare Giulia Giardinetta.

For modern “Alfisti” (Alfa Romeo aficionados), the new limited-edition, 402 kW, Giulia GTA which is based on the Giulia Quadrifoglio will also be on display to help celebrate some of the most loved GTA models that were created by Alfa Romeo’s racing arm Autodelta such as the 1965 “Gran Turismo Alleggerita”, that was based on the Giulia Sprint GT.

Fans from all over the world can take “A Tour of 110 Years” which is a series of videos created to commemorate the special occasion and includes a panoramic view of the museum as an introduction, a description of the brand’s industrial continuity, a “Beauty” section to showcase the combination of style, design and lifestyle, a summation of technology, competitive spirit and driving pleasure, an exclusive view of the “Storage” area, featuring a collection of vehicles and artefacts previously unseen by the public and last but not least an overview of the “Archive,” showcasing photographs, videos, technical drawings, sketches and production records.

Alfa Romeo is inviting everyone to join the festivities which will be streamed via the brand’s official social media channels at 3:30 pm CET at this link. During the proceedings, world champion Kimi Räikkönen and rising Italian talent, Antonio Giovinazzi from the Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN F1 team will be making a special appearance to celebrate Alfa Romeo’s historic success in the sport. Alfa Romeo won the very first Grand Prix race and the inaugural edition of the Formula 1 Championship in 1950, with Nino Farina on board an Alfa Romeo Gran Premio Tipo 158 Alfetta. In 1951 Juan Manuel Fangio also grabbed the top position on the podium with his Alfetta 159.
