Porsche has unveiled the first of four collector’s editions which will be focussed on a Heritage Design strategy.

Porsche has unveiled the first of four collector’s editions which will be focussed on a Heritage Design strategy. The first vehicle is the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition which uses elements from the 1950s and early 60s to celebrate Porsche’s rich heritage and success on the racetracks.

The elements added to the new 911 Targa have been reinterpreted by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur as they resemble the 1950s and 60s design but feature the latest technology. Only 992 examples of the exclusive model will be built and although it is available for order immediately, the new vehicles will only make their way to dealerships from the third quarter of 2020.

Customers that did not win an allocation will be glad to hear that some of the interior elements featured on the special edition Targa will be available for all current 911 models as part of a Heritage Design package. In addition to the heritage elements for the vehicle, Porsche Design has also developed a high-quality chronograph watch which is planned to be built and sold in limited numbers and will be exclusively available to 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition owners.

“With the Heritage Design models, we are evoking memories of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s in customers and fans alike. No brand can translate these elements into the modern-day as well as Porsche and, in this way, we are fulfilling the wishes of our customers. We are also establishing a new product line that represents the lifestyle dimension in our product strategy with these exclusive special editions,” Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.

Prospective owners can choose in between four exclusive exterior paint colours to be combined with gold logos, one of which is called Cherry Metallic. In addition to the gold logos, the limited vehicles will also be adorned with a white livery in historical design, recalling early days of Porsche competition history. Further setting the limited models apart is the Porsche Heritage badge on the engine lid grill which resembles the badges awarded to Porsche 356 models that surpassed the 100,000 kilometres mark on their odometers.

Furthermore, the exclusive vehicles will see the addition of the1963 Porsche Crest on the bonnet, steering wheel, and wheel centres and vehicle key as well as the embossing of the head restraints and key pouch with the historical motif. On the exterior, the 20/21-inch Carrera Exclusive Design wheels and classic-look brake callipers finished in Black will come as standard.

Also paying tribute to an era gone past is the exclusive two-tone leather interior which combines Bordeaux Red leather with OLEA club leather in Atacama Beige or Black leather with OLEA club leather in Atacama Beige. This combination is further enhanced by the use of corduroy on the seats and door trims and signals the return of a material used in the iconic 356 models in the late 50s. The driver will also notice the classic green-illuminated rev counter and stopwatch as well as the perforated roof-liner which adds to the overall classic theme of the limited vehicle indicated by a metal badge on the trim panel of the dashboard.

Underneath this Heritage Design model is the new 992 generation 911 Targa which was introduced recently. This model features the latest technology for chassis, assistance systems and infotainment and is powered by a Biturbo boxer engine which, in combination with the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, produces 331 kW and accelerates (with Launch Control) from 0-100 km/h in less than 3.6 seconds. The Targa will continue to accelerate to its top speed of 304 km/h.
