He wanted to be a pilot but settled for washing cars

Living with what he makes by washing cars.

WISEMAN Madonsela (32) grew up in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, and comes from a family of six. He is currently residing in Turffontein.

Since the age of 12, he has been the breadwinner for his family in KZN. Seeing poverty escalating in his family he decided to move to Joburg. He searched for a job for five years with no luck. That’s when Wiseman decided to abandon his dream and become a car washer.

He lives alone and from the money that he earns with the car wash, washing one to two cars daily, he supports his family.

Wiseman said: “I don’t want to see myself participating in any criminal activity that’s why I chose to wash cars. I do my daily routine from 7am to 5pm and in between the time I market myself to get clients. Since my dream of being a pilot has dashed away, all I want now is to open a tuck shop and further my studies.”

Wiseman washes cars in Turffontein, Rosettenville and Haddon.

WASHER: Wiseman Madonsela works with determination as his entire family depends on him. He makes a point to send money home to his family.

Sandile Khumalo, a taxi driver, says: “I don’t mind leaving my taxi with Wiseman because I know he will perform magic. My colleagues can agree with me on that. I wish that he could get a spot where he can expand his services and I also wish that he gets lots of clients.”
