WATCH: Rand Show returns this Easter

The launch of the 124th show was held on March 28 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

THE Rand Show has returned to indulge Gauteng residents in a ten day long series of fun and exciting games and exhibitions for the whole family.

The launch of the 124th show was held on March 28 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre where media guests were treated to a sneak peek of what people can find at the show from March 30 to April 8.

General Mafi Mgobozi, communications director for the South African National Defence Force ( SANDF), addressed the media and spoke of the partnership with the Rand Show that has been extended to 2020 and the exhibitions that the special forces, air force and disaster management will have at the show.

Nonnie Kubeka from Gauteng Tourism also spoke of how proud they are to be partnering with this iconic event. She explained how people from East Africa and other parts of Africa, as well as from overseas, come to the Rand show every year to experience it. She spoke of how this event creates employment among the youth and also unemployed mothers and fathers.

“This event has a huge economic impact and is not only an entertainment event but it creates so much wealth in and for Gauteng,” said Kubeka.

Josh Lindberg spoke on the Rand Show’s all new House of Horrors and this is something that people must experience for themselves. It is not for the faint-hearted.

Craig Newman, CEO of the Johannesburg Expo Centre, gave insight into the show. Apart from the classic exhibitions like family exhibitions for the children, lifestyle exhibitions for shopping etc, the festival stage for entertainment, the amusement park, the night market, the SANDF exhibitions, the helicopter rides, the flower and garden show and the Experience India exhibition, there are also many new editions.

Some of the new stalls will be the one for the Department of Home Affairs which will be giving the public an opportunity to apply for the smart ID cards. The naked scientist is also back. There will also be a weekday festival with a five-a-side soccer tournament from Tuesday to Thursday and not forgetting beach tennis.
