Join Alice for a fun-filled trip to Wonderland these Easter holidays

There is a place like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery and danger! Some say to survive it you need to be as mad as a hatter.

THE Peoples Theatre is bringing Alice in Wonderland to Johannesburg. What an idea. A crazy, mad, wonderful idea.

In March and April, travel down the rabbit hole and join Alice, one of literature’s most beloved heroines, on her madcap adventures. ‘

QUEEN: Alida Senekal as Queen of Hearts.

The ever-curious Alice’s journey begins innocently enough as she chases the White Rabbit. Her adventures become increasingly more strange as she races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, raps with a bubble-blowing caterpillar and is shrunk, stretched, scratched and stuffed into a teapot, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game!

Think it’s impossible? Only if you believe it is. The characters are not crazy, their reality is just different than yours. But you’ll love it. From the Mad Hatter to the Cheshire Cat, the eccentric personalities add to the colourful, psychedelic world of Alice in Wonderland.

MAD: Marvin Molepo as Hare and Luciano Zuppa as Mad Hatter.

Based on the books by Lewis Carroll, the Peoples Theatre’s version of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland will bring all your favourite, wacky characters to life. And don’t forget the crazy ditties. Expect to hear all of them – from In a World of My Own to I’m Late to The Unbirthday Song.

“Alice in Wonderland is such a fun, kooky story. We are having such fun designing the sets and bringing it to life. It may have been written more than 150 years ago, but it’s still so fantastical, so popular. We can’t wait to bring it to the theatre and see the reactions from the audiences,” said Keith Smith and Jill Girard, the brains behind all the productions at the Peoples Theatre.

Have they gone mad? We’re afraid so. They’re entirely bonkers. But we’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are. Don’t miss out on this wonderful world of crazy fun. Disney’s Alice in Wonderland will be on at the Peoples Theatre until April 29. It’s going to be a blast. For more information, call 011 403 1563/2340.
