29: A craft market will be held from November 29 to December 2 on Greyvillea Street in Meyersdal. It will take place from 10am to 7pm on Wednesday and Thursday; 10am to 9pm on Friday and 10am to 3pm on Saturday. It will be a fun day for children with a coffee shop, arts, crafts and fun. 2: Festival of Chariots will be held on December 2 and 3. It is an international festival and South Africa has also been a part of this incredible phenomenon. Durban, Cape Town, Pretoria and Soweto have been hosts. This, the platinum celebration of 20 years of mardi gras celebrations will take place at the Lenasia Soccer grounds (Hummingbird Avenue). Entry is free and there will be a chariot parade, local dance performances, international musical performances, cooking and craft demonstrations, a children’s corner, engaging conversations about ancient philosophy with leaders of society, and a health corner – to name a few. 2 and 3: Mall of the South hosts ComicEx on December 2 and 3. Come dressed as your favourite hero or villain and join us at ComicEx for loads of entertainment, including live action role play, cosplay, gaming, alien paintball arena, movie theatre, free wi-fi access compliments of Easyweb, comic book stalls, merchandising stalls, giveaways and much more. R100 per day or R150 for two days. Tickets are limited, so get your tickets early from Easyweb, Mall of the South Centre Management and at selected restaurants at the mall. 2: Join a fun youth Christmas-themed market for young entrepreneurs on December 2 from 5pm to 11pm. Entrance is free. Come find us at Sundowners Alberton. To book a stall contact Chantal on 064 644 2145.

3: Balwin will be hosting a charity hat walk on December 3 at the Jeppe Quondam from 7.30am. Dogs are welcome and food and drinks will be on sale. There will be a jumping castle and you are welcome to bring picnic baskets. Balwin will be supporting the following charities this year: Guide Dogs Association, A New Hope Dog Rescue, Hospice East Rand, Lambano Sanctuary, Germiston SPCA, The Cows, Little Eden, TLC – The Love of Christ Children’s Home, Theo Jackson Foundation and Jeppe Athletics PDI.

3: Guided group tour through Melville Koppies Central on December 3. Sets off 3pm sharp. It costs R50 for adults and R30 for children and all donations go towards maintaining the Koppies. 9: Door of Hope will be hosting a lighthouse carols and night market on December 9 from 5pm to 9pm at Harvest Christian Fellowship on 2 Tehore Street in Mulbarton. Entrance fee is R10 per adult and R5 per child and all proceeds go towards the Door of Hope Children’s Mission. You are welcome to bring along your own chairs and blankets for carols but no food is permitted. Food and drinks will be on sale along with Christmas gifts from creative vendors.

12: Solly Kramer’s in Turffontein will be hosting a Christmas fun day for all the children in Turffontein under the age of 15 on December 12. Saturdays:

The Red Windmill Village Market is held every Saturday and Sunday. Get away from the city and spend some time in the country air at our Victorian Village only 20 minutes from Southgate. There will be fresh produce, various food stalls, a coffee shop, nursery, mushrooms, second-hand bookshop, home industry, arts and crafts, etc. Open every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3pm at 104 Main Road, Walkerville. Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve Association. For all walks, meet at the entrance precinct, Peggy Vera Road, Kibler Park. Mondays:

Tai chi classes for adults are available at Martial Centre in Winchester Hills. Classes are on Monday and Wednesday from 7pm to 8pm and from 6.30am to 7.30am on Saturdays. This is an ideal form of exercise for over-40s. Tai chi is a martial art but is practised at a slower pace. Choir members are urgently needed for a multi-denominational choir called Under His Wings, under the leadership of Claude Weeder. Kung fu classes are available at Martial Centre in Winchester Hills. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Anyone aged five years or older is welcome to attend.
