Krank’d Up Festival was a jol!
Happy and carefree memories were definitely being made.
KNOWN as the go-to festival for alternative music fans in South Africa, Krank`d Up music festival, presented by Turning Tricks Entertainment, presented another unforgettable show that will be remembered for years to come.
On the evening of September 30, Sundowners was absolutely buzzing with people who were rocking out at the annual Krank’d Up music festival.
This year, two international bands headlined – Dallas-based Memphis Mayfire and Toronto-based Intervals. Supporting bands included Red Helen, OhGod, Vulvodynia, Megalodon, Albinobeach, Savage Lucy, My Columbine, Mezzanine Floor, De Wallen, Deadline, Coldfield, After Robot, State Society, Held on Till May, Bloodbeast, Mad God, Maximum Carnage, CMR and You Me and the Harmony. It was a metalhead’s mecca.
Upon entering the event (after quite a struggle to find parking), one could see that everyone was having a great time. The bar was packed with people and the bartenders were spilling drinks as they hastily tried to fill everyone’s orders. The lines for the bathrooms were almost as long as everyone’s hair. Ever-so-often, someone was spotted rolling a “cigarette” – no smoke machine was needed to turn this indoor venue into a hazy rock-n-roll party!
Outside, there were even more people at the big stage where the international bands were going to play. The stage was already occupied, though, and the party was in full swing! A couple of stalls selling energy drinks and alcohol were set up outside. Hundreds of people gathered around, drinks and cigarettes in hand, dancing and jumping up and down to the fast-paced hard-rock and metal music.
As the sun started to set and the music became extra fast, the first mosh pit formed. Moshing (also called slamdancing) is a style of dance in which participants push or slam into each other, typically performed to aggressive live music. This was something to behold! Even though it looked a bit dangerous, it looked like tons of fun, especially with a few drinks in. Happy and carefree memories were definitely being made.
Even though it drizzled a bit outside, the party did not stop. It moved indoors (mostly) and the bands were not afraid to keep the volume turned up, up, up. All the bands still performed, everyone had a great time, drinks and smoke flowed (and a few people passed out too), which means this event was an awesome party and a great success!
