Locals march against drugs

While the group marched, some local residents who were not part of the marchers took an angry cause and burnt an alleged drug house in Rosettenville.

RESIDENTS of the South gathered at Rotunda Park to host what was one of the South’s biggest marches against drugs on Friday, September 9.

The march was attended by learners from various schools, Market Superspar Kenilworth staff, local DA councillors, MMC of Public Safety Michael Sun, and various other stakeholders.

DA PR Clr Tyrell Meyers made it clear that the DA wants to clean up the South and get rid of all the drug dealers and brothels and tackle the issue of hijacked house as this service is overdue in the South.

MMC Michael Sun informed the media that drugs are killing and hurting the children of the South and it is time residents fight back to eliminate this problem and build a safer community for all who live in it.

Meanwhile, another angry Rosettenville mob that watched the protesters march informed the COURIER that they decided to go and burn down an alleged drug den they had been complaining about for a long time, in Haig Street. Initially people thought it was the protesters. But later those involved in burning the house told the COURIER they felt it was time to take their community back and save their children who are used as sex workers in these brothels.

Moffatview SAPS communications officer, Cst Rebecca Bila, said, “A case of arson has been opened. The case is being investigated. Members of the community are not supposed to take the law into their own hands. If there are criminal activities taking place they need to contact the police.”
