UPDATE: Ten suspects shoot at the police in Kibler Park

Police officers managed to arrest three suspects.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH  – Ten heavily armed suspects opened fire at the police in Kibler Park on Friday, September 11, during a foiled robbery attempt at a brick manufacturing company in Swartkoppies Road.

JMPD, the SAPS Flying Squad and the Soweto K-9 Unit were on the scene. Blocked roads and a helicopter search enabled law enforcement to track down three suspects in Oak Lane Street. The suspects had fled in a bakkie and a white BMW believed to have been hijacked in Vosloorus.

The suspects reportedly shot at one of the police vans with a R5 assault rifle. One suspect, who was wounded in both legs during the shootout, was transported to hospital by paramedics. Seven suspects are however still at large.

“The three suspects will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court to face charges of attempted robbery, possession of stolen weapons and hijacked vehicles,” said JMPD communications officer, Wayne Minnaar.
