I am addressing this letter to the council of Mondeor (be it ANC, DA, etc.), the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the Department of Transport and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD).

I am a Mondeor resident who has been living in this happy suburb for four years. Over these years I have seen more than my fair share of road traffic accidents on Columbine Avenue.

At the traffic lights at the intersection of Columbine Avenue and Royal Park Drive, I have seen the most horrific accidents.

On Wednesday, August 12, at about 13:30 yet another horrific accident, involving a truck and about six cars, that should not have happened, did because this intersection is a death trap.

There is no respect for the traffic lights and you battle turning right into Royal Park Drive and when you do you hold your breath and hope for the best as you try taking the turn. You cannot clearly see the cars coming towards you and if you do they are traveling at ridiculous speeds to catch the traffic lights at the last second.

This concerns me as I, my husband and my mom use this intersection on a daily basis dropping and collecting our child from school. I feel blessed that after my mom collected my child they were not caught up in this catastrophic accident.

Something has to be done about this intersection before more lives are damaged and lost.

I plead to drivers to be more cautious, so that we can help find a solution to this issue as quickly as possible.

Drive to stay alive!
