Youth Day celebration with a cause

Let us start adopting freedom fairness and opportunity for all and not for some.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – On June 16, we celebrated Youth Day with a difference in Ward 57, South Hills, at the Recreation Centre.

People came together and participated in various sporting activities like boxing, netball, soccer, singing and dancing. We did not forget about our elders, who also enjoyed the entertainment on the day. The cherry on top was that I handed over two wheel chairs to Amanda Dladla (7) and Anele Mtetwa (5) from La Rochelle.

It came as a big surprise to their parents as they did not know that it was all part of the plan when I invited them to come celebrate Youth Day with us. The joy from the crowd in the hall and tears is something that will remain with me for a long time. Although we remembered this day, and why we lost almost 176 youth in 1976, the saddest part is that most of our youth are without hope and a positive future , not knowing what tomorrow might hold for them.

My advice to them is to complete your schooling and education because it is the key. I would like to plead with our parents to give more attention to their children because if they don’t, they go wondering outside and get in contact with all the wrong elements.

I would like to thank everyone who made this day possible; Trixi, Meals on Wheels, all the sporting coaches, all the ladies who prepared the delicious food and just everyone for being there.

Let us start adopting freedom fairness and opportunity for all and not for some.
