Disappointed by Joburg Metro

'After asking JHB Metro to email my account, I received a whopping bill of at least R6 000.' - Resident.

I write this letter as a warning to all residents of the South, because the Johannesburg Metropolitan Council demanded that I pay R1 300 deposit, because when I bought the house 21 years ago, a deposit was not paid and all of the transfer paperwork was done by an attorney.

So I paid the deposit after getting nowhere for weeks in trying to find out how this could be done after such a long period of time.

My electricity meter was being read each and every month as I am at home all the time during the week. I was not receiving my account due to the postal strike, so I would call 011 375 5555 and ask how much I owed and paid it in full. But last month I received a whopping account for more than R6 000.

When I called them I was told that since August 2014, I was receiving an interim account, which I was not told even once when I was calling them. Their excuse is that no one was at home to give a reading.

When I called City Power for the readings, besides being pushed from pillar to post and trying to get someone who comprehends my dilemma, they could not give me the readings for the past six months, and had no telephone number for the company doing the readings. I looked for the company in the telephone book, to no avail. I believe that the readings were not handed in and or not captured.

Residents, please write down your readings each time, get the meter readers name and who he works for, as they are sub-contractors, and call JHB Metro to give your reading, if you are not receiving your accounts.

I now have to go to JHB Metro to make an arrangement. They do not care how you do it, just as long as you pay.

I am really angry at the dismal way in which residents are treated and lied to by City Power and JHB Metropolitan Council, to cover up for their employees and colleagues’ disinterest in the jobs they have.
