TURFFONTEIN – Saturday is the big day at Turffontein Racecourse when it is the annual Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile again – one of the most popular events on the horse racing calendar.

This is the day when 16 charities will win big money when R550 000 will be shared between 16 charities. Not a single one of these charities will walk away empty-handed as the winners will receive R100 000 down to R20 000 for the last horse in. During this day, each charity will be represented by one horse during the charity mile.

Our three newspapers, Alberton RECORD, Comaro CHRONICLE and Southern COURIER will see some of the best runners in the field on the day. As you Like will be out for the RECORD representing Reahile Primary After Care Centre, and will be running in lane 18 with Louis The King in lane 17 for charity Fortune Kunene Primary After Care Centre, and as media partner the Comaro CHRONICLE will be ridden by Pierre Strydom from Alberton. With a good draw in the mid-field is Sovereign Mint for the COURIER and charity Umkhathize Primary After Care Centre.

These charities are also matched with a celebrities representing the charity and they will grace the race day with their presence. The COURIER will be represented by Fiona Nay, the RECORD by Alex Caige and the CHRONICLE by Clive Mairsty. Bring your family and friends and take the opportunity to meet the celebrities. The day offers a host of activities for young and old with fund and entertainment available for the entire family with gates opening at 11:00.
