Pets, is it a good idea for a Christmas present?

Giving pets as Christmas gifts may seem like a good idea at the time...

All you can think of is how the kiddies will enjoy having a little fur ball to play with. Christmas is the season of love and giving, and puppies and kittens are so adorable, but do they make good Christmas gifts?

Many people love the idea of surprising their love ones with a pet, but many think it’s the worst idea ever. If you are interested in getting a pet for a loved one for Christmas as a gift, you should get your family involved in deciding what type, size and breed of animal should be considered.

Owning a pet is a great responsibility for the whole family, even more so than having a baby. This is because eventually babies grow up to become teenagers and then adults who don’t need constant supervision throughout life. If you know a person is a dog lover and does not already have a dog, there’s probably a good reason why. If he or she already owns a dog, perhaps it’s not the appropriate time to add another dog to the family. Talk to this person about dog ownership. Maybe you can go as moral support when the time comes to choose a dog. Either way, it’s safest to stick with gifts of the non-living and breathing variety.

The gift of a new dog or puppy is something many children dream about, but is it the best gift to buy them for Christmas? Many people say it’s the worst idea to buy a pet as a gift. The new owner may enjoy the animal for a few weeks, but then resent the gift once the novelty wears off. The cute puppy starts growing into an active, needy, larger dog and doesn’t get the attention it needs. So think carefully before making any arrangements to buy a pet for Christmas, and make sure it will be the best idea for the whole family in the long run.
