Santa Shoebox project broke all records

A fantastic response this year!

Thanks to the generosity of people from all over South Africa, the heartwarming Santa Shoebox Project once again broke all previous records by collecting a whopping 119 663 festive season gifts this year, for children from vulnerable s homes and care centres across the country, and as far as Namibia.

The 2013 project will end off on a high note in early December, when the Santa Shoebox Celebrations take place at centres in each of the nine provinces. Connecting people through The focus was on increasing support to caregiving facilities in small towns and farming communities all over South Africa and to take on board many more orphanages and homes in all areas. Forty percent of the Santa Shoeboxes collected at the larger centres in bigger cities were specifically allocated to the rural areas, where the need is particularly great. There has also been substantial growth in terms of support for many more remote satellite centres in all provinces.

There is no s project can be attributed to the support of our sponsors, in particular e.tv, who came on board as media partner this year with a massive on air campaign. The level of public awareness this created was beyond imagination, and we have never before seen pledging happening at such with more than 10 000 boxes pledged per day on each of the first four days! Kfm and Good Hope FM in the Western Cape and Radio Wave in Namibia went all out this year to inspire their listeners to pledge shoeboxes, and gave our project a huge boost when we needed it most.

Other major sponsors this year included Aspire Solutions, Fairheads Trust, BulkSMS, Mpact, and KingJames to name a few, as well as FIVESTAR PR, the agency that has provided PR services on a pro bono basis since the project was started in 2007. This year a number of Santa Shoebox Celebrity Ambassadors, such as Jenny Morris, the Giggling Gourmet, and Miss Earth South Africa 2013 Ashanti Mbanga, also put their efforts behind the project to motivate and inspire their social media followers to join up as donors.
